Books, songs, dances, games, raps and rhymes have been especially written and selected for BEEBOP to utilize children's natural desire to play, to respond to music and movement and to explore the sounds of language. The fundamental premise of the program is that language develops through engaging, meaningful and successful use.

Children with limited exposure to English need time to listen to the sound of it. The multiple opportunity approach in BEEBOP makes it more than suitable for those needing the enjoyable repetition to support learning. The emphasis on listening and speaking, the encouragement to participate, the fun and security of group involvement all meet the special requirements of those beginning another language.
Using Music with Language
- listeners are engaged by the "universal language" of music
- music already has "meaning", is "understandable" when the language may not be
- listeners are engaged by rhyme, rhythm and repetition in music and language
- listeners are engaged by the actions, movements alliteration associated with songs
- learners hear enjoyable repetitions and multiple encounters with "chunks of language", lexical phrases, words and grammar
- learning takes place in a non-threatening, social and active environment
- music-and-language activities are associated with "fun", "games" or challenges
- repetitions of words and phrases which would be nonsensical in everyday speech seem sensible in songs and rhymes
- actions, dance movements, finger-plays and games associated with songs often illustrate vocabulary and grammar
- melody, harmony, tone color, rhythm, rhyme and repetition greatly assist memory
